Distribution means how you get a film promoted and how it gets into a cinema. This includes advertising and marketing, selling posters and memorabilia to gain media attention. Without distribution many films would not even be recognized or even make the money they do. Distribution is vital and a film would not succeed without this.
Hammer Production:
Hammer productions is an independent production company based in London.
There most recent film is the critically aclaimed "The women in black" starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). This film was highly publiscied trailers shown many months before release. There were several sneak peak TV shows and many interviews. However it was not fully known by many people until a few weeks prior to the release. This is most likely to it being an independant production company and they do not have the funding. This is most certainly the well known film by this production company and has given them a name.
Other films produced by Hammer productions are:
- Let me in
- The resident
- Beyond the rave
- To the devil a daughter
This is The women in black trailer this is one of the ways it was distributed, this trailer was shown in cinema late 2011 to create excitement. Other ways in which this film was distributed was :
Radio
Cinema
Social networking
Youtube
All of these are seen by many audiences over all age and race. However I felt the main advertising point was the fact it starred Daniel Radcliffe who is globally known as Harry Potter. This would create a huge inherited audience and therefore distribution was important to sell this film as it being an independent production the money isn't there.
Lionsgate productions is a majourly world wide brand based in America. It makes films worth millions of Dollars and usually have some A list celebrites star in them.
One of there most popular films when released was the Twilight saga . The first Twilight cost $37 million and there are no A list actors in there they only became them after the film. Whereas let me in cost $20 million. This is signifcantly less.
Other films made by lionsgate
- All saws
- Kick ass
- From paris with love

However this is similar to The women in black advertising but Twilight was in a much larger scale due to the fact they have more money. The special effects attracted audiences and also the young attractive characters.
The clear difference between these two production companies is the fact Lionsgate is worldwide so therefore more money is funded into there productions and they can afford high prolife actors, special effects and more film time. Although both companies attract different audiences and are successful in there own way.
When thinking of distributing our film we have thought of several ideas. We would create a film poster and put them up in cinemas, shops, billboards, colleges and schools. This would show a large audience of people. We would have radio announcements and around 6 months before realize a film trailer on youtube and on several mainstream websites so the film is recognized. Also I would like to put the film trailer in cinema adverts for the appropriate classification and this would be perfect for our target audience to see. This however would be if we had a lot of money and we must think more realistically with having no money.
With no money we have decided a few ways in which we can promote our film, our main chance at advertising our media to horror film lovers is a film festival. I researched into Nottingham's films festivals and I found BANG! short film festival and mayhem film festival. These are all local "platforms" in which all age groups and all types of films directors can enter there own work to be shown to an audience. This would be great for us to gain some feed back and see if our original target audience and idea has worked. Also it will let us be known in the directing world and we could possibly pick up some tips.

We created a poster for our film and our inspiration was the paranormal activity poster as this created a haunting element. We wanted to not give to much away and this will add to the films suspense and fear.
This is our posyer and we feel it fits perfectly for our ghost sub genre and we would be happy to post this around.
As you can see this is our main focus of inspiration and we feel very proud to be not exactly the same but a quite high standard. We felt proud of the lettering and how the image compliments this.
