Question 7 Reflective Evaluation

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Below, is my final evaluation video!! In it, I am talking through all the tasks that we have completed. By doing this, I am showing all the skills I have learnt from them, discussing the strengths and weaknesses. It shows how our ideas and the films we have made have grown and got better through out the course, discussing the strengths and weaknesses through out and finishing with the end product!

I really hope you enjoy watching how much I have learnt through out the task just as much as I did!

Question 6 Reflective Evaluation.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

To answer this question, we feel that the best and most effective way to do so was to create a Prezi to show you what we have learnt. Below is a link to my own Prezi page showing what I have learnt through out the process:

http://prezi.com/gmqp4s-bxrfc/present/?auth_key=xveu2c5&follow=8xoqcryai3d2

Question 5 - Reflective Evaluation

How did you address/attract your audience?

Paranormal activity:

The rating for this film is 15 certificate.
Why? It involves graphic scenes and moderately strong language.

After reasearching into the user ratings on this film, on average, it has a 6.5 rating our of 10.  As shown in the picture above, the highest ratings from the gender catagory come from males, with 73,282 votes (average of 6.5). Similarly, the highest ratings from the age group catagory, is from under 18 year old males.

This research has made us think that our film in this specific genre would benefit most if we tried and targetted our film for the under 18 age group. Even though this film has the highest ratings from under 18 year old males, we are still going to target both genders.

"The movie is scary indeed. After watching Paranormal Activity I noticed that the nightly sounds of my 200 years old house were louder and creepier than ever. But I did not let my good night's sleep for it."

This is from a viewer of the film itself, and this is a great review! We are hoping to reach the target audience and create a reaction exactly like this!!

The Awakening:

The Awakening has an age certificate of 15 which means it is unsuitable for viewers under the age of 15, as it may have graphic scenes that viewers may fin distressing.

Why? For similar reasons as Paranormal Activity; It involves graphic scenes and moderately strong language.

After researching into the user ratings for The Awakening, I have found out that again it has a 6.5 rating out of 10 on IMDb. However, The Awakening has the highest amount of votes from the female gender category, with 1,368 votes that averaged out at a rating of 6.8/10. With this information, we then found out that the highest voting age category of females that voted fell between the 18-29 age group. Originally we weren't going to aim our film at this specific sage category, we where thinking of aiming it at 18 and under. However we will take this into consideration!

I then researched into the age group that we where going to aim our film at (under 18 years) and after doing so, I found out that the highest voting gender was male. So based on this information, we will try and make our age category still fitted for under 18, both genders, but also make sure that it could attract older viewers aswell.

"The final scenes of the film offered up some nice little twists and surprises that prolonged the conclusion, with an epilogue that will leave you guessing right up until the last minute to see whether Nick Murphy decided to go for the jugular like other films in the genre, or to stick to a more traditional and conventional finale, and I'm glad it was what it had decided to be."

The Woman In Black:

The Woman Balck is a 12A film. A 12A film is one in which no one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, and films classified ‘12A’ are not recommended for a child below 12.

Why? This film may contain moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained.

Suprisingly, just like the previous film, after researching into the user ratings this film recieved the highest amount of votes from the female gender catergory with 7,653 votes rating it at an average of 7.0/10. Also, alongside this the age category that had the highest amount of votes was the under 18 category, with again the female category averaging at 8.0 at 796 votes.

"Creepy and off-putting, The Woman in Black really is a terrific thriller. It's intended to shock, and in many scenes it is successful. It's a moody, psychologically scarring throwback to the old Roger Corman movies based on Edgar Allan Poe stories, with an amazing adult performance by Daniel Radcliffe as a young lawyer out of his depth."

After doing in depth research into this film, this has definitely helped us realise that we are going to aim our film at the under 18 age category.

The Task:

The Task is a 18 certificate film.

Why? The material or treatment appears to the BBFC to risk harm to individuals or, through their behaviour, to society – for example, any detailed portrayal of violent or dangerous acts, or of illegal drug use, which may cause harm to public health or morals.

Again, this film has the highest rating from females, with an average of 4.6/10. Similarly, in each age group (18-29, 30-44 and 45+) the highest ratings are all from females.

"It isn't scary or even bloody or messy, it's a bit to tame for that. Only the twist at the end makes it worth watching because you can't see that one coming."

After researching into this film, we now feel that we don't want to set our target audience/age certificate to be any higher then 18 years of age, as we feel people above this aged will loose interest and wont enjoy our film as much.

What Lies Beneath:

What Lies Beneath has an age certificate of 15.

Why? Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

After researching into the film, we found that again the highest rates came from the female category! Scoring it at 6.7 on average with 9,157 votes. The highest rating age group was under 18 years old, with an average of 6.8/10.

"Still, I was hooked for about a third of the way (once the wife supernaturally took on the persona of a missing woman and seduced her husband with a little licking and biting, I began losing faith)."
 ___________________________________________________________________________________

After researching into many different films that fit in with our genre; Ghost/Thriller horror film, we have come to the conclusion that on average, both genders (Females and Males) and the age groups that enjoy this horror genre.

We found the main element of these films is a young ghost child whom usually haunts a house in which something terrible happened to a young child, and now they want to haunt or kill the houses inhabitants. We decieded this would atract many people as we all live in a house and this too could happen to the viewers thats why we feel the fear we do. So we wanted to use this element of a young ghost girl haunting a house. I also feel that our loacation is perfect. Most ghost/thriller horror films that are similar to ours are set in modern day houses, we felt that this would fit in perfectly with our film. Also, most of the time in ghost/thriller films, the threat usually 'attacks' the victim in the bedroom, so for this reason again we have decided to film ours mainly in the main bedroom to fit in with the conventions of ghost/thriller. We based our casting around the conventions aswell, making sure that our victim was a young male to show fit the stereotypes of  young people getting haunted by a child who is seen as a ghost.

We have come to the conclusion that we have decided to make our horror film a 15 certificate, as it fits the correct criteria. Also, we are going to make our target audience both gender groups and for anyone between the ages of 15 and 18 (however people over the age of 18 are welcome to watch aswell!)

In our film, there is a sequence where in which the character is lay in bed being haunted by the supernatural threat. We decided to include this in our film because as stated earlier, most of the time in ghost/thriller films, the threat usually 'attacks' the victim in the bedroom. We are going to have dim lighting to fit in with the conventions, aswell as making the villain take scare the victim through supernatural and spooky ways. Just like how they do in paranormal activity. On top of the way that we are going to shoot our film, using different props and camera work, we coincided a musci backing track that we created on garage band, we created it so that it always has a calming beat through out, but then, when the threat increases, the musice does aswell, adding tension and atmosphere.

The general feedback from our final film was great! The audience realised straight away that it was from the ghost/thriller sub genre. They said that the musice could have had abit more of a range in sound and pitch, however they still said that they liked it and that it worked well! Comments where made about how our lighting, location and cast where perfect, and added to the atmosphere, making our film all in all a success! Even though we had a few negative comments, we took these as constructive criticism, and worked upon it.

Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full project

Here is my evaluation, i take you through everything I have learn't in the last year, the ups and downs and what my opinions were of the set tasks.

I discuss continuity and how this is the main requirement for our film, this allowed me to show you how we used this and what it actually is. I then moved onto how we decided what to do for our film and what inspired us. I then showed you our chosen actors and the location and why we choose them. I go into some detail of a traditional ghost genre conventions and how we followed this but also changed some to make our film original and exciting. Throughout I show you the videos we have filmed and what we learnt by doing them and where we went wrong and what went well. I go on to discuss many more things and this leads us to our final film. I hope you enjoy this video

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

To make sure we used the correct features, which are sutible for the target audience age we're trying to attract.

The audience we are tying to attract to our horror film is both genders, as we feel that the footage is sutible for both males and females. But we decided that we are going to narrow down our target audience age to 15-18 years of age, simply because we feel that this is the age group that visits the cinema to watch the genre of horror/ghost the most and would enjoy our film the most. We feel that anyone older then 20/21 wouldnt be as attracted to our film or the genre, simply because people of that age arent generally as interested. Studys provide evidence that teenagers are mainly attracted to fear and the feeling of suspense, which our film provides! However they are also attracted to blood and gore, which sadly our film does not contain but we feel that the element of a ghost would attract just as many viewers just like other horror films like What Lies Beneath and Paranormal Activity which both have similar story lines to ours.

After watching a convential generic horror film, Drag Me To Hell this clip represents how the older generation (the old women) is seen as the villain. With the young girl giving off the impression that she is scared and vulnerable, this suggests that in this case, the younger generation is the victim where as the old lady is the threat. In my opinion i feel in some ways both characters fit the stereotypes of there generation. The young girl is seen as a hard working person, who has pretty much a perfect life style. When the old women starts interrogating her at first she plays it cool, but after time she starts to get a bit aggravated which is when her fear starts to come through. Similarly the old lady fits the stereotype of being a bit crazy and mad. However  i don't think I could really comment on this as stereotypically not every old lady is possessed!! I also think that the gender is important, by making both the victim and the threat female, this shows that she typical stereotype is proven yet also broken. The young girl fits the stereotype as most people assume that young females are typically vulnerable and scared of pretty much everything. Where as the older lady breaks that as she is shown as being evil.

Final Film! Katie Bee and Rebecca Stonehouse

This is our final film for our coursework!! We are really happy and proud with how this turned out! We think that we have used a good variety of shots and angles through out, and we also feel that our music fits in perfectly with our film adding more tension and atmosphere to the film.
All in all, we are happy with what we have produced and really hope we get a good mark!!

We know it is not perfect as we can not produce a hollywood quality film but with the technologies and equipment we had we feel we have worked well and have created a good quality film.

Question 3.

What kind of media unstitution might distribute your media project and why?

Distribution is how you get a film promoted, to then get it into a cinema. The main and most successful ways of distribution includes advertising and marketing, selling posters and memorabilia, which are all used to raise the awareness and also to gain attention.

Hammer:

Hammer productions is an independent production company based in London. One of their most successful films is 'Let Me In'. With the main character being played by Kodi Smit-McPhee. Before the official release of this film, it was publicised globaly, with movie trailers and sneak previews being shown across the globe, this raised the awareness of the film, and built up tensions which later led to more views when it hit the cinemas.
The film also has its own official global merchandise store, aswell as both UK and US facebook pages, a twitter page and a US site. By having your film being advertised on 2 of the most popular social networking sites, this would have definatly risen the awareness of this film. Along side many television interviews on both US and UK tv shows, the film itself was still not over publicised and doubted before its general release, and by doing so this has definatly not only rose the awareness of the film its self, but also the production company too.

There are other big films produced by hammer, such as The Resident, Beyond The Rave, To The Devil A Daughter and the most recent Women In Black.

The main and most effective way that films distribute their films are through trailers. Below is the official trailer for 'Let Me In'.

I feel that this was mainly aimed at teenagers and young adults more then any other age groups. Seeing as the film was released in November 2011, this trailer was shown in many different cinemas across the country through out late 2010/early 2011 to promote the film and its punchline, creating excitment for the actual realease.

The film was still promoted in the obvious ways aswell for example;
Radio
Cinema
Social networking
Youtube.

Personally I think that considering they're just a small budget, standard London based film company, they managed to advertise there film effectivly, with it going on to be a huge hit.

 Liongate:

Lionsgate productions is a majourly world wide brand based in America. It makes films worth millions of Dollars and usually have some A list celebrites star in them.

This is one of Lionsgates massive films, The Slaughter, released in 2006. Again this was advertised in exaclty the same way in which Let Me In was advertised, radio, television, interviews, trailers and via social networks. However The Slaughter had an advantage, as it was being distributed by Lionsgate who are already a well known and loved film producer globaly so this automatically gives it a lee-way!

Overall I think that Lionsgate would have more money to spend on advertisment/promotion of the film itself, where as Hammar would concerntrate more on actually making the film the best it could be. Other films that Lionsgate have produced are:The SAW series, Kick Ass and From Paris with Love.

Seeing as we are no where near as big as film company's like Lionsgate and Hammer we needed to think of other ways to to promote our film, and get it out there and recognised. We looked at local film festivals like BANG! film festival, which takes place in Nottingham City Centre every year at the broadway cinema in Hockley. Every year it showcases the local talent and lastest range of short films produced by local talent. Also there are talent scouts at the events so this could lead into great praise and recognition by the scouts themselves.

Here is an example of a film from the BANG! Film Festival:

Below are some sample posters that have been inspirations for the poster that we have created. We looked at posters that are in the same genre category as our film which is Ghost. We have used 2 of the films that we watched earlier on in the course as part of our inspiration, along side the Paranormal Activity poster.

These are the posters for 'What Lies Beneath', 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Dark Water'. After taking into consideration what our film is about, we feel that the Paranormal Activity is the best poster to use the most inspiration for our own. We have decided for our own poster to take a still shot from our horror film of the bed and then we are going to edit it on Photoshop. We want to place the image over a plain black background and have bold, block color font below and above the image naming our title, our logo and other useful information.

This is our own poster for Coraline. We decided to use a similar design as the Paranormal Activity poster. We got a picture from our film of the main character in the bed with a scared expression on his face, we then put a dark black/grey background. We used white block font on top of the dark background so that the titles look better and bolder. Underneath the picture we decided to colour the font in a dark, deep blood red so that this fits in with the conventions of our film.

QUESTION 2.

How does you media product represent particular social groups?

Drag Me To Hell:

This is an extract from Drag Me To Hell. In this clip it represents how the older generation (the old women) is seen as the villain.

Paranormal Activity:

In this clip from Paranormal Activity, the threat isnt shown. However the victims are, the victims fit into the following social class groups; both female and male who seem to fall under the 18-25 year age group. From this clip we cant really state what class the fall under, however I think it's safe to say that they are working class citizens.  This is represented through the mise en scene. The setting of the bedroom istelf gives us the impression that they are working class, as they can afford goos furniture and a nice house etc. The age is represented through the way that the characters apprearance. Even though the way the young female character is behaving, gives of the impression that she is younger then she appears. However, to me, both the characters looke between the ages of 18-25. The genders of the characters dont need to be represented in any special way, as it is pretty obvious what genders both characters are!
In my opinion, i feel that the characters DO follow the stereo typical of age and gender, however I feel that race isn't as important as the others, as the race doesnt have much of an affect on the characters/film itself. In horror films, female characters tend to act girly and scared whilst under threat. This was potrayed through this clip from Paranormal Activity. The male genre always tend to be potrayed as keeping their cool in scary situations, making sure that the other character (which tends to be a female) is alright and safe. Almost as if the male characters are putting on a act!

These are our test shots for the actors that we have chosen. We felt that it was right for us to include generic and age conventions because typically in horror films, the younger character is seen as the threat. So we decided it would look better if we used a young girl as the threat in ours.
Our storyboard also fits in with this as through out it has perfect opportunities to show the conventions we are using. The ghost girl we use is haunting the older male character, which fits in with other typical ghost films, by having the threat as a child.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After researching into many different films that fit in with our genre; Ghost/Thriller horror film, we have come to the conclusion that on average, both genders (Females and Males) and the age groups that enjoy this horror genre.

Most of these films have the threat as a young girl, and the victim as a young person between the ages of 18-25.

We have come to the conclusion that we have decided to make our horror film a 15 certificate, as it fits the correct criteria. Also, we are going to make our target audience both gender groups and for anyone between the ages of 15 and 18 (however people over the age of 18 are welcome to watch aswell!)

ASSESSMENT OF FIRST SHOOT

In my opinion I think that the majority of our shots are steady. However there are a few shots that are a bit wobbly so on the re shoot we are going to focus more on the steadiness of the shots. We also didn't get the lighting perfect, and the there are certain shots where the continuity wasn't correct. So on our re shoot we are going to definitely making them our priority. We will watch them back and analysis them throughly until there is not continuity errors and no need to re shoot. We also need to be careful with the 30 degree rule and the 180 line rule but we will use the correct measurements and perhaps a dolly to fix this problem. However we are happy with the camera positioning and angles, we think it works really well.

Teachers comments

  • Need more reverse shots included.
  • Need more of a build up
  • Let him walk in and out of frame, don't follow him with the camera
  • Need more of a reaction/expression
  • Steady camera
  • POV Shot
  • More narrative
  • More camera angles

Katie Bee- Reflective evaluation Q6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

 http://prezi.com/bxyq-ljshaih/what-have-you-learnt-about-technologies-from-the-process-of-constructing-this-product/

Skills recap

Shot reverse shot: This is used in order to show what they are looking at and there reaction without this we would become bored and the film would fall flat.

Position of Tripod: The tripod changes levels to create suspense and fear. For example when she is going up the stairs the tripod is almost ground level to create fear and it is not natural. Also without the changes we would become bored and not scared.

Shot length: When different shot  lengths are used, it creates the feeling of anticipation and fear. By varying them this also makes us more engaged. For example, when the character is looking around in fear, this is because we know that something is going to happen so the shot length is held for 7 seconds to cause suspense. Where as when the  character is being possessed the shot only lasts for a second, which then makes us feel very scared as we don't know exactly what's happening and don't have a clear understanding on the situation.

Shot Angle: Through out this clip we see a range of different shot angles being used. We see low angles being used when she is walking up the stairs, which gives the impression that she is heading towards trouble, with something being at the end of the walk. A high angle is used to show the girls vulnerability, we will use a canted angle as this is distorted and strange, like a typical horror movie.

Lighting: The lighting is dim throughout, shadowing is used to create and atmosphere, as we can not see what is being shadowed.  Also buy having no direct lighting being shown in the shot, this creates a feeling of fear. The shot stars off with just the lighting being shown, which automatically creates a feeling of suspense and fear for when the character enters.

Colour: The main colouring of this film is black and grey's. As it is daunting and again adds to the dark and mysterious atmosphere. However the character is wearing white as this shows her innocence and vulnerability.

Katie Bee- Reflective Evaluation Q3

What kind of media instituation might distribute your media product and why?

Distribution means how you get a film promoted and how it gets into a cinema. This includes advertising and marketing, selling posters and memorabilia to gain media attention. Without distribution many films would not even be recognized or even make the money they do. Distribution is vital and a film would not succeed without this.
Hammer Production:

Hammer productions is an independent production company based in London.

There most recent film is the critically aclaimed "The women in black" starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). This film was highly publiscied trailers shown many months before release. There were several sneak peak TV shows and many interviews. However it was not fully known by many people until a few weeks prior to the release. This is most likely to it being an independant production company and they do not have the funding. This is most certainly the well known film by this production company and has given them a name.

Other films produced by Hammer productions are:

  • Let me in
  • The resident
  • Beyond the rave
  • To the devil a daughter

This is The women in black trailer this is one of the ways it was distributed, this trailer was shown in cinema late 2011 to create excitement. Other ways in which this film was distributed was :
Radio
Cinema
Social networking
Youtube
All of these are seen by many audiences over all age and race. However I felt the main advertising point was the fact it starred Daniel Radcliffe who is globally known as Harry Potter. This would create a huge inherited audience and therefore distribution was important to sell this film as it being an independent production the money isn't there
     Liongate:

Lionsgate productions is a majourly world wide brand based in America. It makes films worth millions of Dollars and usually have some A list celebrites star in them.

One of there most popular films when released was the Twilight saga . The first Twilight cost $37 million and there are no A list actors in there they only became them after the film. Whereas let me in cost $20 million. This is signifcantly less.

    Other films made by lionsgate

    • All saws
    • Kick ass
    • From paris with love

Other ways in which this film was distributed was :
    Radio
    Cinema
    Social networking
    Youtube

However this is similar to The women in black advertising but Twilight was in a much larger scale due to the fact they have more money. The special effects attracted audiences and also the young attractive characters.

The clear difference between these two production companies is the fact Lionsgate is worldwide so therefore more money is funded into there productions and they can afford high prolife actors, special effects and more film time. Although both companies attract different audiences and are successful in there own way.
When thinking of distributing our film we have thought of several ideas. We would create a film poster and put them up in cinemas, shops, billboards, colleges and schools. This would show a large audience of people. We would have radio announcements and around 6 months before realize a film trailer on youtube and on several mainstream websites so the film is recognized. Also I would like to put the film trailer in cinema adverts for the appropriate classification and this would be perfect for our target audience to see. This however would be if we had a lot of money and we must think more realistically with having no money.

With no money we have decided a few ways in which we can promote our film, our main chance at advertising our media to horror film lovers is a film festival. I researched into Nottingham's films festivals and I found BANG! short film festival and mayhem film festival. These are all local "platforms" in which all age groups and all types of films directors can enter there own work to be shown to an audience. This would be great for us to gain some feed back and see if our original target audience and idea has worked. Also it will let us be known in the directing world and we could possibly pick up some tips.

This is an example of a short film entered in the Mayhem film festival in Nottingham. As we can clearly see this film does not have any money in the budget and if it does it would be very minimal. I feel being able to showcase a short film in a film festival locally is a great way to gain publicity. Also we felt this too could be ourselves in the near future if we wished to enter a festival. This is an easier way for an independent film company to reach out and be seen.

This is an example of students who have entered there work in Nottingham's bang film festival. We could be in there position and we can see how much entering themselves into a local festival has really boosted there careers and confidence. They do not have all the special effects and high tech camera and this is what we are like , so we feel privileged to have such a welcoming festival in Nottingham.

We created a poster for our film and our inspiration was the paranormal activity poster as this created a haunting element. We wanted to not give to much away and this will add to the films suspense and fear.
This is our posyer and we feel it fits perfectly for our ghost sub genre and we would be happy to post this around.
As you can see this is our main focus of inspiration and we feel very proud to be not exactly the same but a quite high standard. We felt proud of the lettering and how the image compliments this.

    Katie Bee- Reflective Evaluation Q5

How did you attract/address audience :

    Black swan:

    Certificate: 15
Why: Mild violence, mild language and senses a sexual nature

This allows me to understand what is appropiate and what is not when doing our film.

I feel this is certificated perfectly as anyone younger than 15 would possibly be disturbed and quite scared as it is a dark, daunting film. By seeing what is appropriate allowed us to refine our ideas for our own film.

    Drag me to hell:
    Cetificate: 15
Why: Mild violence, graphic images of gore, mild language.

This allows me to understand what is appropiate and what is not when doing our film.

This being in the horror genre helped us very much and we realized what makes a 15 horror film so successful. We established what worked for our film through this film and that we are on the right track in it being a 15.

    127 Hours:

    Certificate:15
Why:Little language, no violence, grapic/disturbing scenes.

This allows me to understand what is appropiate and what is not when doing our film.

Although this is not in the horror film section it was still a 15 an gave us more of an ides what we can include and that 15 films are very popular among society.

    The shawshank Redemption:

    Certificate: 15
Why: Strong language, scenes of a violent nature, Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

This allows me to understand what is appropiate and what is not when doing our film.

The scenes of violence and the inappropriate allowed to see what was perfect for a 15, although our film does not include any of these if we had chosen to we would follow this films examples.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind:

    Certificate: 15

Why: Strong language, nudity within sexual context but without strong detail.

This allows me to understand what is appropiate and what is not when doing our film.

The confusing and intellectual concepts of this film allowed us to understand that we can have some complex and adventurous story line plots but we deiced against anything to complex as this is not common in the horror film conventions.

We first looked into which sub genre we found the most frightening and we discovered the element of the supernatural and ghosts were our calling. We then went into researching previous films I watched Dark water and Rebecca watched What lies beneath. We found the main element of these films is a young ghost child whom usually haunts a house in whic the used to live or something terrible happened to them and they want to haunt or kill the houses inhabitants. We decieded this would atract many people as we all live in a house or falt and this too could happen to us thats why we feel the fear we do. So we wanted to use this element of a young ghost girl haunting a house. Our audience will we feel like the fact we have changed the traditional ghost will expand our audience to a broader range of people. This will engage them into watching a traditional ghost film with a twist. We feel they are looking to see a big element of suspense and we provide that by not giving away the entire plot and ghost girl straight away. They will enjoy that it could be seen as realistic and they will feel it could happen to them as its in a house and they will be of a similar age to them self's so they will want to feel it could be them next. This is how we targeted a specific age of 15-18 year olds because they as I stated before can related to the characters age and how closely suited there environment is to there own.

The location is perfect as it is in a modern home and the use of props are barbie dolls and a light. The house will engage the audience as we all live in a house or flat and can imagine it being them there in the bed. The props are globally known products and some people see dolls as scary and haunting and the traditional use of a light flicker on and off entices the audience because they wanna see what is lurking in the shadows.

We felt our casting was perfect and challenges the original idea of a main protagonist being a female. By having a male who looks in his early 20's allows teenager and above relate ad it opens up a new view to the audience of a males perspective of being haunted. The threat is kept traditional by having a young ghost girl of the age of 10, we felt this will keep our audience comfortable with this as it hasn't changed the entire generic conventions completely. I feel both these attributes will engage the audience as it is traditional but a new idea too and they will want to see how this works and they can relate.

My title sequence engages the audience because it is a slight sense of foreshadowing to what our film contains and it sets the mood and scene as we want them to feel uncomfortable and have a sense of fear through the suspense. The images

When looking on IMDB we found the films the this sub genre are always a 15 due to there content. Mild violence, no-little gore and mild language. Also we looked into the ghost's usual apperance and found they are often very pale, with dark matted hair, black eyes with bleeding lips. We aspire to something similar and hope our look can be noticed as a ghost genre. Also we will attract a younger audience because with the other key element usually being a 20-30 year old being haunted we have used a male actor whom looks much older and can act older too. This allows the audience to feel some what connected to them but doesnt haved the element of living on there own. This adds to the audiences expierence of suspense and the element of the unknown. However by using a  male this once again as stated before breaks the stereotype mould and this will attract new audience of perhaps more males as they want to se how a male will react to this and also will be a new exciting idea as no one has been this happen before.

Our lighting will be dim and this was seen in the film Dark water. The reason for this is that it is human nature to fear what is lurking in the shadows and we are desperate to find if there is any danger, in our film we only use a single weak light which will provide a dim, low key light and this creates an idea we are almost blind but cannot see the danger before us. Music will be quite simple and slow perfeebly on the piano as this offers a low key and is quite daunting. The setting is a singular room and this is very similar to Dark water as the threat appears in the bedroom and this is identical to our film. In our bedrooms we feel safe and this will make the audience feel uneasy and perhaos no longer safe in there place of peace. We felt this was a very good idea as our audience will most likely be afraid after seeing this and want to move rooms!. We include dolls in which are sometimes a generic convetion as dolls are seen to be myterious and can look very realistic. As there expression never changes we feel like we are being watched and this adds to our films illusion.

Overall we attract our audience by following the typical generic conventions of a ghost sub genre but we do break a few sterotypes along the way making it unique and original.

Our titles worked very well as we used building blocks as this is child like as we wanted people to feel it could happen to them and that we feel it builds suspense.

This is from our titles and as I stated beforehand this is the building blocks and I felt the use of colour really stands out and adds to our film. We liked the lighting as it was dim enough to suggest we were hiding something or keeping something a secret and this added fear.

Our music really does add to our final film as we used garage band to create simple sounds which add a whole new feeling to the film. I felt without the music we don't see the suspense building up for our audience. I music was quite chilling as it almost sounded like a whisper or the wind talking to them and trying to tell you off the dangers before you. This therefore engages our audience as the music gives them a hint for what's in store but they do not know what this is.

Our feedback from our final film was over all good because they audience realized it was from a ghost sub genre. they thought the music could have had more of a range of sound but they commented that our lighting, location and cast were perfect and added to the films success. I feel our response to this feed back was good and although if thee was a bad comment you felt quite disappointed it was constructive criticism and we knew what if we did do it again we would know what to do.

Here is my wordle of what our feedback concluded too, this allowed us to undertand what was good and was bad. We wrote down what we needed to improve and therefore tried to do this in our final film.
