GHOST FILM - MARKING PREVIOUS STUDENT WORK.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awvbLBxFvbI&list=UU_PXbcBvuE8zKeAQOOmoU8Q&index=11&feature=plpp_video

This is the previous student's work that we watched. Below, are our reviews and what ratings we would give it.

We feel the film was of a very high standard and that we hope to acheive a sucessful film.

IMPORTANCE OF LIGHTING.

Key Light: Functions as the main source of light through out the set.  45 degree s from where the camera is set up. Adds definition to face and shoulders.
Fill Light: Fills in shadows. 45 degrees from camera and 45 degrees from the key light
Backlight

Make Up and Costume.

These images show that mainly, ghost characters seem to have very very pale skin with a purple/grey/blue tint to it. The characters eyes always seem to be quiet sunken and dark, looking rather scary!

Based on these images, we have decided to stick with our original idea. Which for the ghost was white/grey skin to make her skin look pale, and sunken dark eyes with some fake blood near her mouth and on the face. Matted hair, so back combed to make it look big and messy. To do this will will use, white powder, black and grey eye shadows, red lipstick and a hair brush to create the messy hair look.
For our other actor, who is just a normal young man. We will probably not put any make up on him as he doesn't really need any. However what we might do is during our scene where he gets scared, make his skin seem a bit paler.
The costumes for our characters will be plain and simple so it looks realistic. For the male he will be wearing standard bed clothes(pajamas).
For our ghost character we will dress her in a long, dirty nightgown.

Our location is extremely suitable as usually a ghost film is based within a house or some type of personal space.

We feel that both of our characters are the correct age and gender. Our ghost is a young girl aged 10, and our male character is aged 17 but comes across a lot older!! (18+)
We feel that these ages are correct because a ghost film tends to have the ghost as a young child to make it seem a lot scarier. And also, our male character wasn't really a problem as we could of had any gender but chose male simply for effect.

*MALE GOES TO TURN LIGHT ON AND GHOST GIRL IS STANDING ABOVE HIM AND IS HEAVILY BREATHING*

End

The point of a script is so the actors know what there saying where and when and how to do it. By having a script prepared we know what tell tell the acotrs to say so we do not waste any time thinking for what they can do. Also we can pay more time with re shooting and editing our film. The script is a huge help and allows us to visualise the film better.

Story Boarding

http://www.youtube.com/user/bilboroumediastudie1

1) The purpose of story boarding is that it allows us to see every scene in detail. Also if we have to go back and re shoot, it allows us to get a clear understanding on what we need to do.

2) We can draw in the lights which would go before the 180 degree line. Also if there is a different angle we can show this by drawing from a different perspective. For example for a canted angle, the box will be diamond shaped rather then just a plain square shape.

Location Shots

We chose to set our film here because its based in a bedroom and we feel that this would make it look really realistic and would be easy to shoot in again if we mess up the shot.

There are no dangers and we do not need permission as one of our members parents own this house. There is hardly any disturbing noise and there are plenty of outlets if we need extra light. There is plenty of space and it is very suitable.

Our Actors!

This is who we are going to use for our main character! We are picking Pete Churchill to play our main character who is just a simple young man who lives in a new house and gets possesed by the ghost. We thought that Pete would fit the part perfectly as he fits the criteria! (young looking, male, and more importantly good at drama!)

For our ghost girl, we are just going to use the same actor as we did last time (rebecca's sister) We thought that this would be the best option for us as we know how to apply her make up as we have already done this, and becuase she's my sister its alot easier to get one of her old nighties that we can use. Also, because we have already used her before its going to be alot easier for us to film her as we know how she acts.

Age Certificates.

After reviewing 2 movies in our genre, that are very similar to ours we are going to make our film sutible for under 18's regardless of their gender. We are also going to make it sutible for over 18's but we feel that the highest age group that we could hit would be the 21 age group, as even though we are going to make it quiet scary, we feel that its not scary enough to entertain people over the age of 21.

IMDB User Ratings With Comments

What Lies Beneath.

Below, the tabel shows that the highest rating is Under 18 Males who watch the film. This means that we are going to try and aim our horror film for this age group. However, even though its mainly males, we are going to aim it for a more wider audience and just say under 21's as we think this will be beneficial.
